Soiano del Lago
The Castle
The medieval castle of Soiano was constructed as a defence against the Hungarian invasions and was also the meeting place for the heads of families in Chizzoline and Soiano. In order to oppose the feared Savoy army a further gate was constructed to close the castle. Currently the manor is once again the property of the Commune.

The parish church
Situated very close to the castle, it was built around 1600 on the remains of an older church dating back to the 15th century. The characteristic bell tower was obtained by exploiting the tower of the castle. Inside it is possible to admire fabulous paintings such as the “Annunciation” by Andrea Celesti and the  “Madonna with Saints Sebastian and Michael” by Bertanza. The majestic organ was created by Antonio Franchino di Montichiari in 1694.

The church of San Carlo
This is found in the village of Chizzoline and was constructed in 1610 in honour of San Carlo Borromeo, who is said to have stayed here. The friars of San Rocco were entrusted with it when Venice decided to destroy their convent and the adjacent church because they did not have sufficient property to guarantee the maintenance of at least 12 monks. Inside one can admire the fabulous paintings by Bertanza.

Palazzo Carminati
Dating back to the 17th century, despite  restoration work and the various uses made of the building over the course of time, this majestic building has retained rooms with the characteristic low vaults resting on corbels.

Thanks to the finding of some villages  of lake-dwellings it has been possible to ascertain that the area was already inhabited in the Bronze Age. The area was also settled by the Romans and saw the devastating passage of the Hungarian people. The Bishop of Verona took possession of Soiano in the medieval era, while Mastino della Scala became its Lord in 1330, until he was replaced by Giovanni di Boemia. The Franciscan monks constructed the convent of San Rocco in the 14th century on the road which joins Soiano to Padenghe. During the modification of the statutes in the 15th century, Soiano obtained 68 days holiday in addition to the usual Sundays. At the beginning of the 18th century, during the war of Spanish succession, Soiano was not spared the passage of armed troops, who brought with them episodes of violence and abuse of the population. Before obtaining autonomy in 1947, the town was first attached to Polpenazze from 1810 to 1825 and then made a part of the commune of Padenghe, together with Moniga, in 1928.
